    Advisory to All Parents

    Dear Parent/Guardian:

The Alaqsite’w Gitpu School will be conducting our bi-annual Planned Mock Evacuation Drill sometime over the next two weeks. The purpose of this drill is to see how long it would take to evacuate all the students from the school and move them the Father Pacifique School in Point a la Croix in the case of a fire or other emergency at the school. After all students and staff have arrived at the evacuation site, attendance will be taken and then everyone will be sent back to the school and classes will continue as usual.

Please note: There is absolutely no need for parents to be concerned about their children. The fire trucks will be at the school to make the evacuation look more realistic, but the children will be under the care and supervision of their teachers and staff at all times. They will be well informed on what is happening and what is expected of them. We are trying to train the children to follow the directions of their teachers so that if a real emergency occurs at AGS routines will occur smoothly and safely.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, or any other issue, please do not hesitate to contact myself here at the school.

    Wela’lin,
    Jeff Grass
    Principal

    First Nations Education Council
    Awareness Building Campaign

Do you know that the federal government seriously underfunds First Nation Education?

The funding formula for First Nations schools has not been changed in the last 19 years. Even worse, current funding does not cover cost associated with libraries, extra-curricular activates or educational reforms. For instance, First Nations schools find it close to impossible to offer their teachers competitive salaries, take advantage of new technologies and provide adequate First Nation language programs.

By refusing to provide FN with resources that will allow them to deliver a quality education, the Canadian government is purposely closing the door to their future.

The First Nations Education Council and the Listuguj Education Directorate are carrying out a public awareness campaign. By raising awareness about the state of First Nation's education we hope to influence the federal politicians into treating us reasonably and fairly.

Please support us in our efforts by visiting FNEC Awareness Building Campaign and signing the petitions.

    Thank you aq Wela’lieg

    NOTICE OF CALL FOR BIDS

Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador (AFNQL) for the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Youth Council (FNQLYC)

Development of the structure for a website dedicated to Aboriginal youths

    BACKGROUND:
This call for bids is pursuant to a commitment made at the First Nations Socio-Economic Forum, held in October 2006 at Mashteuiatsh, to allow the acquisition of a Web site dedicated to Aboriginal youths by the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Youth Council (FNQLYC), an organization forming part of the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador (AFNQL). The development of a Web site is a response by the Quebec government to a need expressed by the various nations’ youth representatives sitting as members of the FNQLYC.

    DÉTAILS:
This Web site is intended primarily for young Aboriginal people aged 15 to 30. It will serve as the gateway providing information to members of the population wanting to know more about the realities, issues and activities of the young people in the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador who are living in our communities and in urban centres.

    • The Web site must be bilingual (French and English).
    • It must be able to incorporate changes on a continuing basis, i.e., it must be adaptable in order to respond to requests from Aboriginal youths and the regional youth coordinator. The designer of the Web site must therefore ensure that it can be regularly adapted and updated. This first step for a Web site is only the beginning. The Web site will be subject to future expansion, which will include adding new sections from several other organizations.
    • The graphics and the resolution of the FNQLYC logo must be improved.
    • The designer must propose an interesting menu for the Web site- Home, Site plan, Menu – Mission, Youth Council: Background and History, Become a Member + Log-in (+ password), News, Events, Photo Album, Downloads, Contact Us, Administrators’ Section (reserved), Map of the First Nations, My Nation, My Community, Useful Links, What’s New, How to Reach Us, and a search function for the Web site.
    • Search for and obtain a domain name necessary for the visibility of the Web site. Following are sample domain names:
  • English
  • Quebec and Labrador First Nations Youth.com
  • Quebec and Labrador First Nations Youth.qc.ca
  • Quebec and Labrador Aboriginal Youth.com
  • Quebec and Labrador Aboriginal Youth.qc.ca
    • Design of the graphics template: The Web site will be made up primarily of static texts and photos.
    • The Web site must be able to contain visual material such as photos and images.
    • It must allow the carrying out of consultative surveys for obtaining information.
    • It must provide a function for assigning names and passwords allowing members to go to sections reserved for members.
    • Training must be given to employees on how to use and update the Web site.
    • The Web site must allow the creation of a database for compiling the information it contains. Examples: Average age of people who are registered at the Web site, level of education of youths who have an address at the Web site, where the youths who are registered at the Web site come from.
    • The Web site must be secure in order to protect the information it contains.
    • All source files must be given to the organization after the completion of the work.
    VERY IMPORTANT
    1. Your bid must be detailed and must present the cost for each required component.
    2. References and portfolio required.
    3. For bids sent by e-mail, this information must be indicated in the message accompanying the required attachments.
    4. The bid must be presented in French or English.

Persons interested in submitting a bid must send their bids to the contracting authority before midnight, Eastern Standard Time, on Friday, September 21, 2007.

Bids may be submitted by mail, fax or e-mail and are to be addressed to the contracting authority as follows:
