Listuguj Education Advisory Board

The election of the first Listuguj Education Advisory Board is a definate milestone for the community of Listuguj. Elections for the LEA Board will take place every three years however it is the first elected representatives that will solidify the role and responsibility of the board and set the tone for years to come.

The Listuguj Education Directorate would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the successful candidates for their recent election to the LEA Board and to express our sincere appreciation for the committment the board has demonstrated over the last several months.

LED General Assembly

The 2005 LED General Assembly was a tremendous success and enjoyed by all that were in attendance.

Guest speakers included Bernie Francis, a linguist, musician and story teller from Nova Scotia and John Martin, Chief of Gesgapegiag and a strong education advocate for the past 20 years. Both speakers were informative and entertaining; they spoke about the importance of education and the Mi'gmaq language.

The Assembly was well attended by community members and LMG staff. A delicious meal of turkey and all the trimmings was prepared and served by our community elders.

LED Focus Group

The Focus Group consists of Mi'gmaq elders who meet on a monthly basis to review Mi'gmaq Language resource materials, short stories, phrases and vocabulary words. Over the last several months the number of elders attending the monthly working sessions have grown from approximately 8 participants to 26 participants.

LED Renovations

The Listuguj Education Directorate has recently been renovated by the Listuguj Mi'gmaq Government. The newly renovated office spaces include a kitchen, staff room, conference room, 10 modern offices, 2 washrooms and an inviting reception area.

New LED Web Site

A new Listuguj Education Directorate web site provides the directorate with the avenue to promote its programs and services to the population of Listuguj.The Listuguj Education Direcorate hired the firm of "Just Ideas" to re-vamp the web site.

Mi'gmaq Language Program

The new language teaching method is fast becoming an avenue by which community members will once again become proficient in the language of their ancestors. Language instructors initially piloted the accelerated program with individuals who multiplied their knowledge of Mi'gmaq words and phrases at a pace that was unheard off over the years that Mi'gmaq was being taught here in our community.
